Triple-Digit MozyPro Adoption amongst Healthcare Providers

Yesterday we were thrilled to announce triple-digit growth in the number of healthcare organizations adopting MozyPro over the past year. We believe that the primary drivers of this growth include economic pressures, the growing trend towards digitized health records, the sheer amount of digital information being accumulated by healthcare providers and compliance with government regulation.

Individual medical records once stored in filing cabinets are now being digitized and stored as electronic health records (EHRs). As part of the recently passed economic stimulus bill, the HITECH Act encourages healthcare providers to move to EHRs and provides financial incentives for doing so. As mentioned in our previous blog post, we’ve had a big announcement to make, and, well, the time has come! Earlier this year, we reached 1 million Mozy customers! To celebrate this significant milestone, we decided to find our millionth customer and give them a warm Mozy "thank you."

Client Release: Windows 1.12

As part of our relentless effort to deliver the best online backup service in the world, we are proud to announce the 1.12 release of the Mozy Windows client. Here’s a couple of highlights from this latest release:

  • We’ve added a search box to the restore tab within the client that lets you search for specific files within your backup. Previously, you could only browse for files and had to know where on their computer it was located, when it was backed up, or in which backup set it was included. You can now search for files on the restore tab in the client.
  • We’ve differentiated backup sets (i.e. all music files) and file system folders (i.e. the “my music” folder) under the restore tab. We had received some feedback from our customers that the visual display in the restore tab made it difficult to distinguish between file system folders and backup sets. Now, this new overlay icon on the backup set folder icon helps to differentiate it from the file system folders.
  • We have added the ability to re-associate a new computer. In the event of disaster or data loss, you can use Mozy to easily restore your backup files to another computer. You can also migrate your backup files from one computer to another, as well as transfer files from an old computer to a new computer. You can find additional information about replacing a computer here.

Back late last year, we decided it would be a good idea to start paying attention to Twitter. Well, since then, we’ve been able to help clients out by using Twitter to announce new versions of our clients , provide a direct channel for customers to get support , offer tips for using Mozy , and mention blog posts and other useful resources . We’ve even gotten a couple of kind mentions !

With that said, we’re trying something new. Starting tomorrow at 12:01 MST, we’ll be having Mozy Twitter Free Account Friday! Computer Nightmare Video Contest Winners!

Back in November of 2008, we announced a video contest asking for people to show us their worst computer nightmares. Maybe it was the awesome prizes (iPods, video cameras, and a trip to Hawaii), or just people’s innate desire to tell an awesome computer horror story. Either way, we received 52 awesome videos detailing everything from a dog with an overactive bladder to a murderous Mac.

Client Release: Mac 1.3.1 and Windows 1.10.4

We’re proud to announce the latest releases of our Mac and Windows Mozy clients! We’ve made a few enhancements and fixed a few bugs people were having; here are some of the highlights:

Mac 1.3.1

The Mac 1.3.1 release addresses two issues:

  • Added functionality for MozyHome users to replace an existing computer. Pro users already have this functionality.
  • Fixed an issue some were having with scheduling weekly backups

Windows 1.10.4

The Windows 1.10.4 release addresses some of the following issues:

  • Improved handling for special characters in an email address.
  • Fixed a bug that caused high CPU utilization by the Mozy icon in the menu bar.
  • Enhanced error reporting when communicating with the servers.
  • Improved the handling for when a Backup set’s specified directory is no longer available

MozyPro Wins “Excellence in Technology” Award

Data loss is inevitable. Whether as the result of hard drive crash, theft, accidental deletion, virus, or natural disaster, it happens to the best of us. According to the National Archives & Records Administration in Washington, 93% of companies that lost their data center for 10 days or more due to a disaster filed for bankruptcy within one year of the disaster. 50% of businesses that found themselves without data management for this same time period filed for bankruptcy immediately. Ouch! The good news is that data loss doesn’t need to be catastrophic as long as the business has a solid backup plan in place such as MozyPro . We hear from countless happy MozyPro customers on an regular basis who- after experiencing the near tragedy of hard drive crash, lost laptop in the taxi, flooded basement, etc. – are thrilled when MozyPro is able to “save their bacon.”

We were pleased to learn yesterday that MozyPro had been awarded the Excellence in Technology Award in the “Backup and Recovery” category from the readers of Small Business Computing. The article states, “this year marks the first time an online backup and recovery service has won the top spot, and honors go to MozyPro.” This award further reinforces Mozy’s position as the most trusted online backup service for consumers and businesses alike. After a humble launch in December 2006, MozyPro has since grown to more than 30,000 business customers ranging from then smallest home office users to large corporations like General Electric.

Since the launch of MozyPro , a tremendous amount of time and effort has gone into continually improving the service with enhancements like an improved Windows Server client, the availability of an AES private encryption key, and the recent release of a Mac version of MozyPro. We still have a lot of work to do, so expect more exciting enhancements and improvements to MozyPro over the coming months and years. We wouldn’t have won the Excellence in Technology Award without the outstanding feedback we receive from you, our customers. Hello, World!

Since we last had a blog here at Mozy, quite a bit has changed. We’ve been acquired by EMC, released several new products, and we’ve learned a lot. As a reflection of what we’ve learned, we’re relaunching our blog with a renewed emphasis on you, our customer. We hope to be able to provide you with tips, inside looks at Mozy products, articles from members of the Mozy team, and status updates on the Mozy service.
