Balcony Restaurant Group Testimonial
We don't have a large corporate office, and we look for every opportunity to minimize the effort and people it takes to run our business so we can use our time more productively.
Rena Graver, chief operating officer of Balcony Restaurant Group, oversees six restaurants in Georgia and Alabama from the group's Dallas, Texas office. That means she has to feel comfortable that each location's data is safe and secure from hundreds of miles away. "Like any business, restaurants are very much tied to their computers and digital information. The difference is, the restaurant business can't stop just because computers are down," she says. "And we don't close on weekends, so there's not a lot of down time to spend fixing computers."
Although the company's main point-of-sale systems were backed up, managers, operations directors, and catering specialists had laptops with no formal backup policies. After two restaurants suffered desktop crashes, Balcony suffered significant lost time recreating inventory, training, and menu data. "That's when we realized that we needed a system that would back up all of our computers," she says. "It was an extreme amount of effort to replace that lost data."
Graver's criteria called for a backup solution that would be automated, secure, and easily managed from anywhere. That would ensure that each vital system remained protected and could be tracked and restored from any location. MozyPro was the ideal choice, delivering transparent, automatic backups with an administration console that gives the central office complete visibility into the state of each location's backed-up data. "Mozy's automation made cloud backup very appealing," she says. "And the administration screen lets me monitor that the backups are really happening, instead of depending on someone telling me that it is being done."
In the past, systems outages have led to a great deal of hassle, including slower service and even the departure of some employees unhappy with the pressures of working on paper until computers were recovered. Compared to the three days or more of restoration time Balcony has experienced with on-premise backup solutions, Graver says that some Mozy restorations have taken 20 minutes or less. "I think I've spent more time reading the instructions to restore data than I've had to spend actually restoring it."
Balcony Restaurant Group has been using MozyPro since February 2010 and has significantly decreased the amount of work and worry around data safety and security. "We don't have a large corporate office, and we look for every opportunity to minimize the effort and people it takes to run our business so we can use our time more productively," Graver says. "MozyPro makes that happen for us, and reassures us that in any crash, we are still going to keep our data."
